Sound is a type of energy made by vibrations. When something vibrates, it causes movement in the air particles. These particles bump into the particles close to them, which makes them vibrate too causing them to bump into more air particles. This continuous bumping movement, called sound waves, keeps going until they run out of energy (when the sound stops). If your ear is within range of the vibrations (the particles bumping one another), you hear the sound.
Your ears are in charge of collecting sounds, processing them, and sending sound signals to your brain. And that's not all — your ears also help you keep your balance. So if you bend over to pick something up, you won't fall down!
Let's begin our quest to find out about different sounds and how our ears process the vibrations that occur so we can hear them! While we explore sound we will be focusing on the following topics:
*The Ear*
*Vibrations*
